Use of the verb "ser" to indicate origin

One of the many uses of the Spanish verb "ser" is to indicate origin.
The verb "ser" takes a variety of forms depending on how it is used.
When you refer to where you are from, you will use "soy" and when you
refer to where a friend is from, you will use "eres".

Let's look at some examples below.

Example Sentences with soy
Yo soy de Colombia. - I'm from Colombia.
Yo soy de Nueva York. - I'm from New York.
Soy de Guatemala. - I'm from Guatemala.
Soy de México. - I'm from Mexico.
Soy de Puerto Rico. - I'm from Puerto Rico.
