Adjective and Noun Agreement

Adjectives describe nouns. Therefore, the number (singular or plural)
and the gender (masculine or feminine) of an adjective depends on the
noun involved.

Example:
la casa bonita - the beautiful house
las casas bonitas - the beautiful houses

The gender of a noun often has nothing to do with the concept of
male vs. female but is rather the result of centuries of tradition.

Gramática
Most adjectives have both masculine and feminine, singular and
plural forms.
Generally if an adjective ends in:

    o it is masculine
    a it is feminine

An -s is added to either vowel to form the plural.

  • un libro nuevo - a new book (masculine singular)
  • dos libros nuevos - two new books (masculine plural)
  • una mesa nueva - a new table (feminine singular)
  • dos mesas nuevas - two new tables (feminine plural)

El lápiz azul. - The blue pencil.
Un borrador blanco. - A white eraser.
El reloj viejo. - The old clock.
El sillón nuevo. - The new armchair.
El tomate rojo. - The red tomato.
Un pepino verde. - A green cucumber.
El repollo delicioso. - The delicious cabbage.
El libro de química. - The chemistry book.
Un cuaderno rojo. - A red notebook.
El papel amarillo. - The yellow paper.
El escritorio pequeño. - The small desk.
Un cine grande. - A big cinema.
El videojuego interesante. - The interesting video game.

Unos tambores ruidosos. - Few noisy drums.
Los lunes aburridos. - The boring Mondays.
Los domingos divertidos. - The fun Sundays.
Los jueves ocupados. - The busy Thursdays.
Dos tomates verdes. - Two green tomatoes.
Los pepinos grandes. - The big cucumbers.
Unos escritorios nuevos. Some new desks.
Los lapices azules. - The blue pencils.
Seis borradores pequeños. Six small erasers.

Una fotografía vieja. - An old photo.
La guitarra nueva. - The new guitar.

Una flauta bonita. - A pretty flute.
La trompeta dorada. - The gold trumpet.
La toalla sucia. - The dirty towel.
La toalla limpia. - The clean towel.

La televisión vieja. - The old television.
Una ensalada colorida. - A colorful salad.

Sentences with feminine plural
Las fotografías digitales. - The digital photos.
Siete guitarras bonitas. - Seven beautiful guitars.
Las flautas dorada. - The golden flutes.
Las trompetas ruidosas. - The noisy trumpets.
Unas televisiones nuevas. - Some new televisions.
Las toallas de algodón. - The cotton towels.
