Infinitives

Gramática - Rápida
Verbs are action words.
There are only three types of verbs in Spanish. We call them:

  • ar verbs
  • er verbs
  • ir verbs

The most basic form of a verb is called an infinitive.
Spanish verbs are categorized based upon the
LAST TWO LETTERS of their infinitive form.

necesitar (to need) --> necesitar --> ar verb

querer (to want) --> querer --> er verb

salir (to leave, go out) --> salir --> ir verb

The verb "necesitar" (to need) takes a variety of forms.
When you talk about what you need, you will use "necesito" and when you
talk about what a friend needs, you will use "necesitas". If you
discuss what he or she needs then you will use "necesita".

The same is true for the verbs "querer" (to want) and "salir" (to leave)

Look at the examples below to see clearly how each verb form is used.
