Indirect Object Pronouns

Indirect Object Pronouns

The Spanish indirect object pronouns are me, te, le, nos, os, les. The indirect object answers the question “to whom?” or “for whom?” The indirect object pronoun substitutes for the indirect object.

John bought the pizza for her.
    Juan le compró la pizza.

direct object - la pizza
indirect object pronoun - le (for her)

Unlike English, Spanish also requires the indirect object pronoun when the indirect object is still present in the sentence.

John bought the pizza for Betty.
Juan le compró la pizza a Betty.

indirect object - Betty
indirect object pronoun - le (for her)
