Spanish Family

Spanish speaking cultures are family oriented so the topic of families will eventually come up. Listen to the sentences below and become comfortable with the vocabulary of the family and how it is used. Please note that padres means "parents" - it doesn't mean "fathers", on the other hand, the word pariente means "relative" - it does NOT mean "parents".

Eduardo: Mi abuelo tiene noventa años.
My grandfather is ninety.
Eduardo: ¿Quién es tu hermano mayor?
Who is your big brother?
Eduardo: ¿Cuántos hermanos tienes?
How many brothers do you have?
Sofia: Ellas son mis hermanas.
They are my sisters.
Sofia: Tío Pablo es inteligente.
Uncle Pablo is intelligent.
Catalina: Mi hermana tiene 22 años.
My sister is 22 years old.
Rolando: Mi sobrino es muy gordo.
My nephew is very fat.
Rolando: Mi sobrina es muy alta.
My niece is very tall.
Antonia: Tengo dos hermanos y una hermana.
I have two brothers and one sister.
