I had a wonderful 3 week experience at Fenix. I have been a teacher myself for 25 years and found the Fenix staff to be dedicated, committed, knowledgeable and fun. They gently push and nudge you into truly immersing yourself in the culture and language. I was a complete beginner and by the end of my second week I was out there in the community trying my skills with a decent measure of comfort. I got many compliments from shopkeepers and taxi cab drivers when I explained how new I was to the language! My homestay was arranged with a couple who spoke no English - they were delightful and what motivation that was to practice instead of hiding in my room or finding a way to speak English. I think you wouldn't like Fenix if you are looking for highly structured, follow-the-textbook classes or if you want a highly polished commercial program. It's a small school - not a lot of glitz - but very good at what they do. You will understand much more about the history and culture of Mexico as well as learn the language. I'm going back.

This School was fantastic! It was small enough that I was able to learn more Spanish and was not tempted to speak English with others. I was also very amazed by how personable everyone is. They taught the culture and the language very very well.

The school and the teachers are very nice and patient people. I started with zero knowledge in Spanish and learned it very quickly because there was always somebody who explained me some things ten times until I picked it up. The courses and classes are small and informal so that there is no pressure or anxiety necessary. The facilities and accomodations are on a normal level. If you are looking for a high class school or accomodation you have to pay more. But I think that is not necessary. The value for the money is more than fair so in my opinion 4 stars are fair. From Cuernavaca you can travel to every place you like. The school is also organizing some trips you can attend.
