Preterite - Irregular Spanish Verbs  


i-stem verbs

One group of irregular preterite verbs have an (i) as part of the stem of the verb. The verbs hacer (to do, to make) and venir (to come) belong to this group. The tables below shows how to form hacer and venir in the preterite tense. Other verbs follow the same pattern: querer (to want, to love) changes to (quis).

venir (full conjugation)

venir
yo vine (I fell)
viniste (you fell)
Ud./él/ella vino (you/he/she fell)
nosotros vinimos (we fell)
vosotros vinisteis (you guys fell)
Uds./ellos/ ellas vinieron (you all/they fell)

hacer (full conjugation)

yo hice (I did/made)
hiciste (you did/made)
Ud./él/ella hizo (he/she/you did/made)
nosotros hicimos (we did/made)
vosotros hicisteis (you guys did/made)
Uds./ellos/ ellas hicieron (you all/they did/made)
