ver and dar

The verb meaning (to give) in Spanish is dar.

The verb dar is irregular in the preterite tense. The base is simply d and the endings are the same as the verb ver in the preterite.

dar (full conjugation)

yo di (I gave)
diste (you gave)
Ud./él/ella dio (he gave)
nosotros as dimos (we gave)
vosotros as disteis (you guys gave)
Uds./ellos/ ellas dieron (they gave)

ver (full conjugation)

yo vi (I saw)
viste (you saw)
Ud./él/ella vio (you/he/she saw)
nosotros (as) vimos (we saw)
vosotros (as) visteis (you guys saw)
Uds./ellos/ ellas vieron (you all/they saw)

Let's look at some example sentences:

Le di mi número de teléfono pero no me ha llamado todavía.
I gave him my phone number but he hasn't called me yet.

Tú les diste la hora.
You told them the time.

La mujer a la que diste la entrada.
The woman to whom you gave the admission.

¿Qué tomates te dio?
What tomatoes did I give you?

Le dimos el bolso.
We gave him the bag.

Unas islas a las que dieron el nombre de Islas Canarias.
Some islands to which they gave the name Canary Islands.
