Discussing the Weather

HACER weather expressions
Weather conditions are often expressed with the verb hacer in Spanish. These generally correspond to English expressions that use the verb to be. For example:

Hace calor/frío/sol/viento.
It's hot/cold/sunny/windy.
Hace buen tiempo/mal tiempo.
It's nice out/bad weather.

Other weather conditions use the verb estar. For example:

Está nublado/fresco/húmedo.
It's cloudy/cool/humid.

Verbs that refer to weather conditions are only conjugated in the third person singular.
For example:

Nevar: Nieva mucho en Minnesota. It snows a lot in Minnesota.
Llover : Llueve mucho en Seattle. It rains a lot in Seattle.
Nublarse: Se nubló a las dos de la tarde. It got cloudy at two p.m.
Lloviznar: Lloviznaba todo el día. It drizzled all day.
