Por and para are both used in specific situations.

   Use por with transportation:
Ellos vinieron por tren.
       They came for (by) train.

   Use por with price:
¿Cuánto cobraron por noche?
      How much did they charge for (per) night?

   Use por with verbs like ir, enviar, venir, etc.:
La comisión por enviar el dinero fue de veinte
        dólares.

       The fee for to send the money was $20.

   Use para for opinion:
Para mí, el color del coche fue muy
       importante.

      For me (in my opinion), the color of the car
       was very important.

   Use para to say for:
Mi madre preparó un plato especial para la
       cena.

      My mother prepared a special dish for dinner.
