Overview

We use the verb ser when talking about time.
Es (singular) and son (plural).

Es la una.
       It's one o'clock.
Son las dos.
       It's two o'clock.
Son las cinco y diez.
       It's ten after five.
Es tarde.
       It's late.
Es la medianoche.
       It's midnight.
Es temprano.
       It's early.
Es el mediodía.
       It's noon.
Ya es la una y media de la tarde.
       Already it is one thirty in the afternoon.
Ya son las once de la mañana.
       Already it is eleven in the morning.
Son las tres menos cuarto.
       It's three minus quarter.
          (it's two forty-five)
          (it's quarter to three)
