Dialogue 1

The present participle (gerund) is formed from the infinitive of a verb by removing the (ar), (er), or (ir) ending and adding (ando) for (ar) verbs, and (iendo) for (er) and (ir) verbs.

hablar -> hablando speaking
caminar -> caminando walking
volver -> volviendo returning
comer -> comiendo eating
abrir -> abriendo opening
vivir -> viviendo living

Tía Olga: ¡Hola Luisito! Estoy llamando a tu mami.
Hi little Luis! I am calling your mommy.

Luisito: ¡Hola tía! Mi mami está cocinando la cena.
Hi aunt! My mommy is cooking dinner.

Tía Olga: ¿Y tu papi está trabajando?
And your daddy is working?

Luisito: No, está leyendo el periódico.
No, he is reading the newspaper.

Tía Olga: ¿Tú estás jugando con tus hermanos?
Are you playing with your bothers and sisters?

Luisito: No, Fernando está haciendo tareas y Lorena está ayudando a mi mamá.
No, Fernando is doing chores and Lorena is helping my mom.

Tía Olga: ¿Y tú qué estás haciendo?
And what are you doing?

Luisito: ¡Pues hablando contigo por teléfono!
Well, (I am) speaking with you by telephone!
