The Infinitive

Step 1 - Overview

The simplest form of a verb is called an infinitive. An infinitive ends in "r" and usually means "to _____".

There are 3 main types of verbs based on their endings: -ar verbs, -er verbs & -ir verbs.

    caminar (to walk)
    comer (to eat)
    vivir (to live)

When there are two verbs next to each other in a sentence, the second is in the infinitive form.

¿Quieres jugar?
     You want to play?
Quiero comer.
     I want to eat.
¿Quieres venir conmigo?
You want to come with me?
Voy a necesitar un millón de dólares.
I am going to need a million dollars.
