Subjunctive Mood - emotion and judgement  

Present Subjunctive Expressing Feelings, Emotion, Judgement

The subjunctive is used in a subordinate clause when the main clause expresses emotion or judgement on the part of the speaker. The expressions below need a que before using the subjunctive.


Ser fácil      Ser peor         Ser bueno      Ser malo
Ser difícil    Ser interesante  Ser increíble  Ser extraño
Ser mejor      Ser horrible

Examples:

Es fácil que ella obtenga buenas calificaciones en química.
It is easy forher to get good grades in chemistry.

Fue fácil que ella obtuviera buenas calificaciones en química.
It was easy for her to get good grades in chemistry.

Es mejor que Diana se prepare para el examen del viernes.
It is better (It is a good idea) that Diana prepares for Friday's test.

Era mejor que Diana se preparara para el examen del viernes.
It was better (It was a good idea) that Diana prepared for Friday's test.

Es interesante que digas eso.
It is interesting that you say that.

Fue interesante que dijeras eso.
It was interesting you said that.

Me gusta que mis estudiantes lleguen temprano a clase.
I like students being early to class.

Me gustaba que mis estudiantes llegaran temprano a clase.
I liked students being early to class.
