Impersonal expressions are frequently used in English.

One shouldn't smoke.
One never knows when a tornado will strike.

To form an impersonal expression in Spanish:
- conjugate the verb into the third person singular
- place the impersonal se directly before the conjugated verb

Ana: ¿Cómo es tu familia Julio?
How is your family Julio?

Julio: Es muy grande; tengo muchos parientes.
It is really big, I have many relatives.

Ana: ¿A qué se refiere el parentesco?
What is the meaning of "el parentesco"?

Julio: Parentesco se refiere a los vínculos entre miembros de una familia. Estos se organizan en líneas y se miden en grados.
"Parentesco" refers to the relationship between members of a family. The are organized by lines and are measured in degrees.

Ana: ¿Cuántos tipos de líneas de parentesco hay?
How many types of relationship lines are there?

Julio: Hay tres tipos de líneas de parentesco.
There are three types of relationship lines.

Ana: ¿Cuáles son?
What are they?

Julio: Por consanguinidad, afinidad y por adopción.
By blood, marriage and adoption.

Ana: Yo sé que por consanguinidad, son los vínculos que existen entre los descendientes y ascendientes de un progenitor común
I I know that by blood, are the links between the ascending and descending from a common progenitor

Ana: (bisabuelos, abuelos, padres, hijos, nietos, bisnietos, etc.).
(great grandparents, grandparents, parents, children, grandchildren, great grandchildren, etc.)

Julio: Por afinidad, conocido como "parentesco político", son los vínculos que se forman a través del matrimonio (suegros, yernos y nueras, cuñados, etc.).
Affinity, known as "political relationship" are the bonds that are formed through marriage (in-laws, sons and daughters, brothers, etc..).

Ana: y por adopción es el vínculo entre personas adoptadas, sus padres adoptivos y sus parientes consanguineos. ¿Verdad?
and adoption is the link between adoptees, adoptive parents and their consanguineous relatives. Right?

Julio: Veamos el siguiente cuadro, así podras entender mejor.

Julio: Primer grado: padres, suegros, hijos, yerno/nuera.
First degree: parents, in-laws, children, son / daughter.

Julio: Segundo grado: Abuelos, hermanos, cuñados, nietos.
Second degree: Grandparents, siblings, brothers in law/sisters in law, grandchildren.

Julio: Tercer grado: Bisabuelos, tíos, sobrinos, bisnietos.
Third degree: Great grandparents, aunts/uncles, nieces, nephews, great grandchildren.

Julio: Cuarto grado: primos.
Fourth degree: Cousins.

Ana: De acuerdo.
Agreed.
