There are two forms of the past in Spanish.The imperfect past and the preterite. This lesson focuses on the preterite which indicates that an event took place at some point in the past and it is a completed finished action.

Alicia: Soy su nueva vendedora. Me llamo Alicia.
I am a new seller. My name is Alicia.

Rudy: Hola, me llamo Rudy. Soy la encargada de esta sección. ¿Usted es americana?
Hello, my name is Rudy. I am in charge of this section. Are you American?

Alicia: Hace mucho que vivo en América, pero nací en México.
I've lived a long time in America, but I was born in Mexico.

Rudy: ¿así que es mexicana?
So you are Mexican?

Alicia: Sí, mexicana.
Yes, Mexican.

Rudy: Y ¿en qué trabajó antes?
And where did you work before?

Alicia: Después del colegio trabajé en un supermercado, luego en un café, luego nuevamente en una tienda, pero en joyería, luego me trasladaron a la sección de ropa y calzado y luego un tiempo en librería.
After college I worked at a supermarket, then at a cafe, then again in a store, but in jewelry, then I moved to the section of clothes and shoes and then some time in books.

Rudy: Qué bien, usted tiene una rica experiencia. Vamos, le mostraré la sección.
How nice, you have a bunch of experience, I will show you the section.
