There are only three types of verbs in Spanish. We call them (ar), (er) and (ir) verbs. We catagorize Spanish verbs based on the last two letters of their infinitive form.

caminar (to walk) --> camin(ar) --> this is an (ar) verb

correr (to run) --> corr(er) --> this is an (er) verb

escribir (to write) --> escrib(ir) --> this is an (ir) verb

First, let's consider the present tense of a regular "ar" verb. To determine the correct forms of a verb, we start with its infinitive form. The infinitive form of the verb meaning (to walk) in Spanish is (caminar).

Now we take off the -ar ending:
caminar - ar = camin
Now we add on one of the present tense endings: o, as, a, amos, an
camin + (ending) --> camino, caminas, camina, caminamos, caminan

The different forms of the verb caminar is shown in the table below.

Present Tense - caminar
Yo camino (I walk)
caminas (you walk)
Él camina (he walks)
Nosotros caminamos (we walk)
Ellos caminan (they walk)
Footnote: Yo = I, Tú = You (casual), Él, Ella, Usted = He, She, You (formal), Nosotros = We (males/mixed group), Nosotras = We (females), Ellos = They (males/mixed group), Ellas = They(females), Ustedes = You (plural)
Now let's look at an (er) verb. The verb meaning (to run) in Spanish is (correr).

Now we take off the -er ending:
correr - er = corr
Now we add on one of the present tense endings: o, es, e, emos, en
corr + (ending) --> corro, corres, corre, corremos, corren

And again with an (ir) verb. The verb meaning (to write) in Spanish is (escribir).

Now we take off the -ir ending:
escribir - ir = escrib
Now we add on one of the present tense endings: o, es, e, imos, en
escrib + (ending) --> escribo, escribes, escribe, escribimos, escriben

The different forms of the verbs correr, and escribir are shown in the tables below.

Present Tense - correr
Yo corro (I run)
corres (you run)
Él corre (he runs)
Nosotros corremos (we run)
Ellos corren (they run)
Present Tense - escribir
Yo escribo (I write)
escribes (you write)
Él escribe (he writes)
Nosotros escribimos (we write)
Ellos escriben (they write)
For regular Spanish verbs the ending is identical and you can simply follow a specific rule to determine the form for them all. See the table below.
