Time Expressions using Hacer

When discussing an event, English speakers often ask, "How long has it been?" Spanish speakers ask, "How long does it make?" There are two ways to structure this type of expression. See the examples provided below.

I have had problems with Pedro for three days.

Hace tres días que tengo problemas con Pedro.
Tengo problemas con Pedro hace tres días.

I have lived in France for two years.

Hace dos años que vivo en la Francia .
Vivo en la Francia hace dos años.

Cristina has lived in France for four weeks.

Hace cuatro semanas que Cristina vive en la Francia.
Cristina vive en la Francia hace cuatro semanas.

To say how long that something has not been happening, Spanish speakers simply put the word "no" in front of the verb.

I have not had problems with Pedro for three days.
Hace tres días que no tengo problemas con Pedro.

I have not lived in France for two years.
Hace dos años que no vivo en la Francia .

Cristina has not lived in France for four weeks.
Hace cuatro semanas que Cristina no vive en la Francia.
