Hacer - Time Expressions

When discussing an event, English speakers often ask, "How long has it been?" Spanish speakers ask, "How long does it make?" There are two ways to structure this type of expression.

Hace tres días que tengo problemas con Pedro.
Tengo problemas con Pedro hace tres días.

I have had problems with Pedro for three days.

Hace dos años que vivo en Francia .
Vivo en Francia hace dos años.

I have lived in France for two years.

Hace cuatro semanas que Cristina vive en Francia.
Cristina vive en la Francia hace cuatro semanas.

Cristina has lived in France for four weeks.

hacer (full conjugation).

Let's look at a few more examples below:

¿Hace cuánto tiempo tiene el dolor? - How long have you had the pain?

Hace quince minutos. - It's been fifteen minutes.

Hace una hora. - It's been one hour.

Hace varios días. - It's been several days.

Hace un par de años. - It's been a couple of years.
