Let's consider the present tense of a regular (ir) verb.
The verb meaning "to write" in Spanish is escribir.

Now we take off the -ir ending:
escribir - ir = escrib

Now we add on one of the present tense endings:
o, es, e, imos, ís, en

escrib + (ending) --> escribo, escribes, escribe, escribimos, escribís, escriben

The present tense forms of the verb escribir are shown in the table.

Present tense forms of escribir

yo escribo (I write) nosotros (as) escribimos (we write)
tú escribes (you write) vosotros (as) escribís (you write)
Ud./él/ella escribe (you/he/she write/writes) Uds./ellos/ellas escriben (they write)

Many other -ir verbs follow the same pattern.
A few are listed below:

abrir - to open
asistir a - to attend
descubrir - to discover
recibir - to receive; to welcome, greet

Sentences with abrir
Yo abro la puerta. - I open the door.
Yo abro la lata. - I open the can.
Yo abro la tienda en la mañana. - I open the store in the morning.
¿A qué hora abre el banco? - At what time does the bank open?
La farmacia abre a las ocho de la mañana. - The pharmacy opens at 8am.
El banco abre a las 8 en punto. - The bank opens at 8 o'clock.
El abre la caja. - He opens the box.
Abrimos regalos juntos. - We open presents together.
Nosotros abrimos la tienda todos los días. - We open the store every day.
Abrimos regalos en la mañana de la Navidad. - We open presents on Christmas morning.
Los voluntarios abren las puertas a las cinco. - The volunteers open the doors at five.

Sentences with asistir

Asisto a todas mis clases. - I attend all of my classes.
Asisto a conferencias, eventos y seminarios. - I attend conferences, events and seminars.
Yo no asisto a juntas. - I don't attend meetings.
¿Qué días asistes a tus clases? - What days do you attend your classes?
¿Ella asiste a la iglesia todos los domingos? - Does she attend church every Sunday?
Sí, ella asiste a la iglesia todos los domingos. - Yes, she attends church every Sunday.
El asiste a la clase de inglés. - He attends the English class.
Yo asisto a la clase de inglés. - I attend the English class.
Ellos asisten a la clase de inglés. - They attend the English class.
Ustedes asisten a la clase de inglés. - You all attend the English class.
Juan asiste a la clase de inglés. - Juan attends the English class.
María y yo no asistimos a la clase de inglés. - Maria and I do not attend the English class.

Sentences with descubrir
Cada día descubro algo nuevo. - Each day I discover something new.
Siempre descubro algo nuevo aquí. - I always discover something new here.
¡Qué descubres! - What do you discover!
Cuando descubres a Dios, tu vida cambia. - When you discover God, your life changes.
Juan descubre un nuevo estilo de vida. - Juan discovers a new style of life.
Escucha y descubre música. - Listen and discover music.
Descubrimos cosas misteriosas. - We discover mysterious things.
Descubrimos el lugar por casualidad. - We discover the place by accident.

Recibo cartas cada día. - I receive letters each day.
Recibo libros usados. - I receive used books.

Recibimos mensajes de gente de toda España. - We receive messages from people all over Spain.
Recibimos gente del mundo entero. - We welcome people from all over the world.
Los trabajadores reciben información. - The workers receive information.

Los soldados reciben entrenamiento. - The solders receive training.
Las mujeres reciben atención prenatal. - The women receive prenatal care.
