Quasireflexive/Pronominals Verbs

Quasireflexive/Pronominal Verbs

Quasireflexive verbs also called pronominals are similar to the reflexive verbs, however, the action stays with the verb and it does not go back to the subject as a direct object. They cannot add the word a sí mismo (myself, yourself, etc.) to the end of the sentence.

The forms me, te, se, nos are not used as personal pronouns but as an intrinsic part of the verb. A few examples of these verbs are:

acostarse - to lay down
cansarse - to get tired
arrepentirse - to repent
enfermarse - to get sick
alegrarse - to get happy

Let's look at some example sentences.

Ella nunca se queja.
She never complains.

Nosotros nos quedamos en casa.
We stayed home.

Los muchachos se aburrían fácilmente.
The boys got bored easily.

Ellos y ellas se acuestan.
They lay down.

Yo me enfermo mucho cuando viajo.
I get sick a lot when I travel.

Yo nunca me acuerdo de su cumpleaños.
I never remember his birthday.
