The verb tener (to have) is irregular in the preterite tense.

Tuve que ir a la junta. - I had to go to the meeting.
Yo tuve una cirugía el año pasado. - I had surgery last year.
Tuve un accidente automovilístico. - I had a car accident.
Tuve que cancelar el vuelo por una emergencia. - I had to cancel the flight because of an emergency.
Tuve un sueño. - I had a dream.

¿Tuviste la oportunidad de visitar la Plaza Mayor? - Did you have an opportunity to visit the Plaza Mayor?
¿Tuviste otro examén de química? - Did you have another chemistry exam?
Tú tuviste la culpa de que perdiéramos el tren. - It was your fault that we missed the train.
¿Tuviste tu clase de inglés hoy? - Did you have your English class today?

Su niño tuvo un accidente hoy. - Your child had an accident today.
Usted tuvo un accidente automovilístico. - You had a car accident.
¿Cuándo fue la última vez que usted tuvo este síntoma? - When was the last time you had this symptom?
Usted tuvo un ataque cardiaco (infarto). - You had a heart attack (an infarction).

Esta semana no tuvimos ganancias. - This week, we didn't make any profit.
