Gramática
The first position, the "yo" form of the verbs "hacer" (to make, to do)
and "salir" (to go out) are irregular .
However, the endings do follow the pattern for regular verbs.

Present tense of hacer (to make, to do)

yo hago (I make, I do) nosotros (as) hacemos (we make, we do)
haces (you make, you do) vosotros (as) hacéis (you make, you do)
Ud./él/ella hace (you/he/she makes, do/does) Uds./ellos/ellas hacen (you/they make, do)

Present tense of salir (to leave, go out)

yo salgo (I leave, I go out) nosotros (as) salimos (we leave, we go out)
sales (you leave, you go out) vosotros (as) salís (you leave, you go out)
Ud./él/ella sale (you/he/she leaves, goes out) Uds./ellos/ellas salen (you/they leave, go out)

Sentences with hacer
Yo hago pan. - I make bread.
Yo hago la tarea todos los días. - I do the homework every day.
¿Cómo hago una llamada local? - How do I make a local call?
No hago nada de ejercicio. - I don't exercise.
Yo hago eso con frecuencia. - I do that often.
Hago la tarea por las noches. - I do homework at night.

¿Y tú? ¿Qué haces? - And you? What are you doing?
Hola, Juan. ¿ Qué haces? - Hi, John. What are you doing?
Me haces feliz. - You make me happy.
Tú haces la limpieza de la casa. - You do the cleaning of the house.
¿Me haces un favor? - Can you do me a favor?
Sólo tú me haces feliz. - Only you make me happy.

Ricardo, ¿qué haces aquí? - Ricardo, what are you doing here?
Él hace la cama cada día. - He makes the bed every day.
El muchacho hace una pregunta. - The boy asks a question.
Pedro hace muchas preguntas. - Peter asks many questions.
Juan hace reir a los niños. - John makes the children laugh.
Me hace reir. - It makes me laugh.

Nosotros hacemos todo.- We do everything.
Nosotros hacemos una alfombra. - We make a rug
Hacemos pollo para todos. - We make chicken for everyone.
Hacemos preguntas al maestro. - We make questions to the teacher.
Nosotros hacemos comida para mis hermanos - We make food for my brothers.

Ellos hacen un viaje cada verano. - They take a trip each summer.
Ellas hacen una caminata todos los dias. - They take a walk every day.
Hacen una pareja estupenda. - They make a great couple.
Ellas hacen un pastel delicioso. - They make a delicious cake.
Ellos hacen un viaje largo. - They make a long trip.

Sentences with salir
Yo salgo a caminar. - I'm going for a walk.
Yo salgo de la oficina a las cuatro. - I leave the office at four o'clock.
Nunca salgo de vacaciones durante la Semana Santa. - I never go on vacation during holy week.
Salgo el lunes para París. - I leave on Monday for Paris.
Salgo de paseo cuando hace fresco. - I go for a walk when it's cool.
Salgo de la escuela a las tres. - I leave school at three.
Siempre salgo a las ocho. - I always go out at eight.
Salgo de casa a las siete. - I leave home at seven.

¿A qué hora sales de la oficina? - At what time do you leave the office?
¿Tú sales a correr? - Are you going out to run?
¿A qué hora sales del trabajo? - What time do you get out of work?
¿Sales para las montañas ahora? - Are you leaving for the mountains now?

El sale de la casa. - He leaves the house.
¿A qué hora sale el autobús? - What time does the bus leave?
El sol sale temprano. - The sun rises early.
El tren sale a las diez de la mañana. - The train leaves at 10:00 A.M.
Ella siempre sale sin despedirse. - She always leaves without saying goodbye.
¿Cuándo sale el próximo tren? - When does the next train leave?
El próximo tren sale en una hora. - The next train leaves in one hour.
El tren sale en diez minutos. - The train leaves in ten minutes.

Nunca salimos a hacer las compras. - We never go out to do the shopping.
Salimos tarde de la casa esta mañana. - We left home late this morning.
Salimos de viaje esta noche. - We leave on a trip tonight.
Mañana salimos para Maracaibo. - Tomorrow we leave for Maracaibo.

Ellos salen muy temprano todos los dias. - They leave early everyday.
Mañana salen para Tegucigalpa. - Tomorrow they leave for Tegucigalpa.
Salen a cenar los sábados. - They go out to have dinner on Saturdays.

Notes for the Tutor

  • The student should form sentences utilizing the verbs presented here, assimilate the conjugations, and be able to recognize the patterns in the conjugations as related to other similar verbs like PONER.
