The verb ir (to go) is irregular in the imperfect tense.


Imperfect tense forms of ir (to go)

yo iba (I was going, used to) nosotros íbamos (we were going, used to)
ibas (you were going, used to) vosotros ibais (you guys were going, used to)
Ud./él/ella iba (you were going, he/she was going, used to) Uds./ellos/ ellas iban (you all/they were going, used to)

Sentences with ir

Yo iba a la playa. - I was going to the beach.
Sí, él iba para la fiesta. - Yes, he was going to the party.
Juan iba a la tienda todos los días. - John used to go to the store every day.
Íbamos a la casa de la abuela todas las semanas. - We used to go to grandmother's house every week.
Tú ibas a San Francisco. - You were going to SF.
Tú ibas para allá yo venía para acá. - You were going there, I was coming here.

Ella iba a estudiar en la tarde cuando vino su novio. - She was going to study in the afternoon when her boyfriend came.
Tú ibas a estudiar para ser doctor. - You were going to study to be a doctor.
Yo creí que tú ibas a ir al cine con nosotros. - I thought that you were going to go to the movies with us.
Ellos iban a nadar al lago todos los veranos. - They used to go swimming at the lake every summer.
Apenas íbamos a salir para el teatro cuando empezó a llover. - We were just leaving for the theater when it started to rain.

Nosotros íbamos a la playa de vez en cuando. - We used to go to the beach occasionally.
Así íbamos a empezar la empresa. - That way we were going to start the company.
Nosotros íbamos a vender pan todas las tardes. - We were going to sell bread every afternoon.
Nosotros íbamos a poner negocios. - We were going to start a business.
La iban a vender pero se arrepintieron. - They were going to sell it, but they thought they'd better not.
Alicia me preguntó quiénes iban a ir al día de campo. - Alicia asked me who was going to go on the picnic.
Las visitas se iban a ir a las ocho. - The visitors were going to leave at eight.

Notes for the Tutor
