Direct object pronouns  



Gramática
Direct object pronouns are sometimes used for clarity or emphasis.
They can be used for something or someone previously mentioned.

Examples:

¿Me ves? - Do you see me?
Te oigo. - I hear you.
Lo conozco. - I know him. or I know you.
Lo conozco a él. - I know him.
Lo conozco a usted. - I know you.
Yo me miro en el espejo. - I look at myself in the mirror.

Gramática

me - me (singular)

te - you (singular)

lo - him, you, it (singular)

la - her, you, it (singular)

nos - us (plural)

os - you, familiar (plural)

los - them, you (plural)

las - them, you (plural)

Sentences
Yo quiero la pelota. - I want the ball.
La quiero. - I want it

Lees el periódico. - You read the newspaper.
Lo lees. - You read it.

Ella compra pollo. - She buys chicken.
Ella lo compra. - She buys it.

Veo a los niños. - I see the children.
Los veo. - I see them.

Busco mi libro. - I look for my book.
Lo busco. - I look for it.

El señor compra una mesa. - The gentleman buys a table.
El señor la compra. - The gentleman buys it.

La niña vende limonada. - The girl sells limeade.
La niña la vende. - She sells it.

Elena da una contribución. - Elena gives a contribution.
Elena la da. - Elena gives it.

Juan come un burrito. - Juan eats a burrito.
Juan lo come. - Juan eats it.

Rosa cocina puerco. - Rosa cooks pork.
Rosa lo cocina. - Rosa cooks it.

Sentences
Yo veo a mis primas. - I see my cousins.
Las veo. - I see them.

Mis primas no conocen a Juan. - My cousins don't know Juan.
Mis primas no lo conocen. - My cousins don't know him.

Mis hermanos conocen a mis amigos. - My brothers know my friends.
Mis hermanos los conocen. - My brothers know them.

Nosotros vemos a los muchachos. - We see the boys.
Nosotros los vemos. - We see them.

Ellos quieren dar un regalo. - They want to give a gift.
Ellos lo quieren dar. - They want to give it.

Carlos mata a Juan. - Carlos kills Juan.
Carlos lo mata. - Carlos kills him.

Isabel salta a la cuerda. - Isabel jumps the rope.
Isabel la salta. - Isabel jumps it.

Tú visitas a Elena. - You visit Elena.
Tú la visitas. - You visit her.

Tus padres visitan a Juan. - Your parents visit Juan.
Tus padres lo visitan. - Your parents visit him.

Yo oigo a mis hermanas en la casa. - I hear my sisters in the house.
Yo las oigo en la casa. - I hear them.


Notes for the Tutor

  • Normally the DIRECT OBJECT refers to things, but it can also refer to people.
  • The student should repeat these simple sentences to practice vocabulary and improve pronunciation.
  • Suggested Homework: The student should make 10 sentences following the pattern presented here; each sentence should have two versions one with and without using the direct object pronoun.
