The Verb, Present Indicative - El Verbo, Presente Indicativo

Spanish Verbs

There are only three types of verbs in Spanish. We call them:

  • ar verbs
  • er verbs
  • ir verbs

We catagorize Spanish verbs based on the last two letters of their infinitive form.

Sound caminar (to walk) --> caminar --> ar verb

Sound correr (to run) --> correr --> er verb

Sound escribir (to write) --> escribir --> ir verb

First, let's consider the present tense of a regular "ar" verb. To determine the correct forms of a verb, we start with its infinitive form. The infinitive form of the verb meaning (to walk) in Spanish is (caminar).
