Spanish Grammar Writing in Spanish Agudas
Overview

Agudas are the words that have the stress (acento) on the last syllable:

tejer - to knit
motel - motel
melón - cantaloupe

Agudas have a "written accent" when they end in a vowel or the consonants n, s.

avión - airplane
francés - Frenchman
quizá - maybe
café - brown
jabalí - wild boar

There are some exceptions: When there is need to break a diphthong:

maíz - corn
