Not all teen-programs are equal. Although it took us two months of research, we ultimately placed our daughter in the teen-program at SLI. We made the correct decision.

Classrooms are small and intimate. When I was there, it was the least expensive program but apparently they need to up the weekly fee, which is understandable because it is a great program. First my favorite things, my cheif complaints follow: Favorites 1. My host family was great and very friendly with me, ask to be roomed with Evelia Rodriguez's family, the house is right across the street from the school, Don Arturo's house is also very nearby. 2. The local internet cafe (the waitress there is friendly too, her name is Bicky) moved to a GREAT location around the corner from the school, it's got a great pool and a big open fenced in space that made me wish I was there during the high season with young people all over the place. 3. Lots of practice speaking in the classroom, lots of drills. 4. Public transit is manageable. 5. Teachers were very sociable, friendly, and effective. You rotate teachers weekly so you get to experience various teaching styles. Least favorite 1. I was there during the low season (discount) but I was the only person there less than 40 years old as far as I could tell (I'm 24) and that made it hard to make friends with locals while out on the town alone or else with someone who looks like my dad. 2. The classes SEEMED redundant but, then again, after 4 weeks of intensely studying the various uses of the subjunctive I still have not completely mastered it, despite the high quality of instruction they provided related to the use of the subjunctive. I guess it is just a very difficult form to use.

I went there for a summer program and it was packed, we had a small classroom that was hot most of the time and it seems like some of the istructors were not enjoying teaching their classes. Also, the school had a very flaky wireless internte connection, I thing it was because there were to many students with wireless devices but I'm not sure. They treated us well and they try to cater to most of our needs. Still, I would not mind trying another school to see if they have a better infrastructure and better teachers.
