I took my sons to Copan, and the three of us took spanish classes at Ixbalanque. Unfortunately, we were only there for a week, but I thought the instruction and personal attention was supurb. I wish we could have stayed for much longer-leaving was difficult. The family we stayed with were wonderful to us, and helped with the spanish we were learning by having simple conversations with us at meal time. There are few people who speak english in Copan, so it is a true immersion experience. The towns people are wonderful, friendly, and helpful. It seemed as if everyone were happy to help us learn spanish-they took the time to understand what we were trying to say, and help correct grammer and pronunciation. An added bonus-this is where the best coffee in the world comes from! The down side: once you have had coffee in Copan, brewed by people who had their own coffee plantation, you will never go back to that swill they serve in starbucks!!!

Beautiful school with fun, compassionate administrators, excellent teachers, and quality homestays. The town is lovely and a great place to practice Spanish with carvers, doll sellers, and locals resting in the square. Lots of interesting hiking and exploring to fill your non-class time, too. Highly recommended!
